Welcome to the Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products (ITTP) Resource Center. ITTP is more commonly understood as the illicit trade in cigarettes and other tobacco products through cross-border smuggling, tax evasion, and illicit production of these products. In the United States and abroad, ITTP harms communities through decreased available funding from tax evasion and increased risk to public health and safety. This site is the first of its kind dedicated to increasing awareness of ITTP and providing a space for researchers to gather relevant information and share their research as it becomes available. On this site, you will find our recently published research related to ITTP and additional resources relevant to the study of ITTP.
In addition to relevant research on ITTP, new data from empty discarded pack (EDP) surveys are being made available by BOTEC Analysis, LLC to academic researchers studying ITTP. Original funding for these data was provided to Cornerstone Research through a contract with Altria Client Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Altria Group Inc. These data were used in our current research to measure the prevalence of ITTP in the United States and will be updated as more data become available.
